Can you imagine growing up in a railway station? Picking through garbage on the train tracks for something to eat? Trying to avoid drug dealers and pimps. These playful little boys live in this world. I met them at the Sealdah Railway station at a shelter where they can stay at night, play games and make friends. For those who want a way out, there are social workers that can take them to orphanages in the city, however for many of the kids the station is the only life they know and it takes time to convince them to leave. I played a game of "carom" (Indian style backgammon) with these three boys and was struck by how happy and playful they were. Later it hit me that these boys are orphans that will never be adopted.
