This little street urchin found me one morning at a cafe in Darjeeling. I was drinking tea with my friends and he and I started to have a conversation in Hindi. I asked him if he wanted to eat something and immediately he pulled a chair over to sit with me and my friends. I asked him what he wanted and he replied, "Coffee." He was about 7 and I could not help laughing and insisting that he have some milk instead. Then, when his momos (Tibetan dumplings, a famous dish in Darjeeling) arrived, he asked for "hot chilli sauce" to go with them. He was like a seasoned little man, a ragamuffin, with torn clothes and no shoes. The second he had finished his last dumpling, he ran away without a word.
