It was my first official trip for Baal Dan, and I was searching for projects that needed aid. A friend took me to Loreto Sealdah, a chaotic and bustling school right off a busy main road in Calcutta. I was waiting to speak to the Headmistress when in strolls little Miss. Priyanka in a pink dress. All of 3 years old, she came right up to me and said "Aunty, sweet?". And I lost my heart forever. The cutest smile and perhaps the most mischevious and spoiled of all my Baal Dan babies, Priyanka manages to steal the hearts of EVERYONE she meets. I have countless stories about her, but here a few...
I was leaving Loreto one day and Priyanka called me back and said, "Taniya, you bring me CADBURY chocolates next time, ok?" Not just chocolate, but the full brand name she carefully annuciated, so I would not make a mistake!
After a Baal Dan Kids' Day, a volunteer remarked that she was the "world's naughtiest orphan".
All the children are watching a DVD of Sleeping Beauty quietly one hot summer afternoon, when Priyanka has to stand up, block the tv and announce that she wants to play.
And my favorite... on our first ever Baal Dan Zoo trip, Priyanka wearing her best little dress walks straight up to the lion's den, and yells, "Lion! Wake Up!" to a sleeping and rather grumpy looking king of the jungle!
