we feed the hungry :: feeding programs
There are children in India who are literally starving to death.
India has the
highest rate of underweight children in the world - much higher than
the average sub-Saharan African country. The only way to permanently break the cycle of poverty
is with education. However, if children are hungry they will not go to
school or succeed even if they are in school.
Baal Dan has bargained at local markets for food in bulk so that we
could provide meals on the streets and at railway stations where
kids gather. We've also launched feeding programs
that commit longer-term food supplies to worthy projects
that support children in need.
we educate for their future :: schools & sponsorships
Education is the only way to break the cycle of poverty.
At Baal Dan, we believe that every child has the right to an
education - no matter what their circumstances may be.
We sponsor children from slums and
impoverished backgrounds so that they can attend the best schools in their
area. We invest in their education, and monitor their attendance and
needs.
We are also building our very own school in northeast India!

we offer the joy of childhood :: kids days
Children in orphanages and slums rarely get to
experience simple things that most children do - like go the movies,
the zoo, a water park or arts & crafts. Tanya makes sure that
as part of Baal Dan she feeds the children's minds and souls with fun
experiences they can cherish.
Since 2006, Baal Dan Kids Days
have been a critical part of our focus. Zoo trips, movie days, cricket
matches, parties and other activities are planned for the children whenever possible.
These Baal Dan Kids Days will always be part of what makes Baal Dan a unique
charity focused on the children.
we care for the neglected :: medical camps
Many of India's poor children are suffering
unimaginable living conditions that expose them to numerous
illnesses and other health dangers.
In 2010, Baal Dan set up its first medical camp to provide medical aid to slum children and their mothers.
We also make grants to shelters that can help orphans stay safe and healthy. Our grants provide supplies for the children
(toiletries, medicines, mosquito repellent) as well as improvements to the shelter's facilities (toilets, ceiling fans, water filters).
we shelter the homeless :: supplies for shelters
We see so many deserted children in
tattered clothes on the streets. And with every child, there is a
set of circumstances that has left them
with no home or family. We've visited many legitimate shelters throughout
India that offer a safe place for these kids to sleep, with essentials like
a toilet or access to clean water.
Baal Dan has contributed cots, bedding, blankets and ceiling
fans to create more comfortable places for the children. We
intensely negotiate bulk purchases of basic clothing items so the children
no longer have to worry about these things.
