from the founder
I started Baal Dan in 2006 after volunteering at Mother Teresa's orphanage in Calcutta in 2005. I saw many children, even babies, who lived on the streets. Begging, sleeping on pavements, foraging through trash looking for things to play with.
Did you know $1 = 45 rupees?
That's enough to buy a meal. A book. A toy.
We can leverage the power of our dollar to give these children simple things to make their lives easier and give them more of a childhood.
I started Baal Dan to help children in need.
Help me to make a difference in even one child's life →
Dhanyavaad = Thank you.

we try to break the cycle of poverty : one child at time
our approach
Baal Dan's remarkable growth is due in large part to its uplifting philosophy of helping children in need in India in many different ways and on many different scales. Baal Dan provides grants of varying sizes that address everything from critical needs, to larger building projects and special activities that uplift the lives of orphans and street children.
Without a rigid model, Baal Dan is open to continual change and restructuring, and our Board is focused on addressing the needs at hand for the children we support and continually seeking better more efficient models to help children in India.
With this flexibility we are able to stay nimble and focused on our core mission of helping children in need in the most efficient and effective ways possible.
