How is impact measured?
Each grant is evaluated in a number of ways. The funds are utilized for specific supplies and building projects. The impact and effectiveness of the gifts and/or projects are monitored through proof of expenditures, receipts, before and after photos, and site visits/audits. When working with orphanages, one of Baal Dan’s strategic goals is to make the orphanage more sustainable.
Example: Baal Dan gave a grant of $15,000 for a bio-sanitation system for the Child Haven Orphanage in Hyderabad for 350 children. This bio sanitation unit took a year to build, however, over the next 15-20 years it will radically reduce water costs for the orphanage, enabling it to have water to grow vegetables while reducing irrigation costs and improving the quality of the soil. The impact of this will be easy to quantify over time when one looks at actual water and food costs.
